Chapter 18, The Triumph of the Bourgeoisie 1830-1871, pages 555-575

Chapter 19, The Age of Early Modernism 1871-1914, pages 590-613

Assignment Details:

During your book’s discussion of American Romanticism, they neglected to go over a few very important literary figures: Ralph Waldo Emerson, Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Herman Melville. Your assignment is to choose one of these authors and do a websearch to learn more about him. Identify all of the following:

- When did the author live and die?

- Where did he live?

- What are some of his major works?

- Tell me one fact you found interesting about this author.
