Visit the Leonardo Da VInci, Man, Inventor, Genius exhibit at the Houston Museum of Natural Science until September 14th. Bring me your ticket stub and a brief write-up describing your reaction to the exhibit (did you like it? why or why not?). Also, pick 3 to 5 inventions and describe in a couple sentences how the invention appears in modern times OR why it is not practical.

Listen to The Epic of Gilgamesh. You can find an audio book on CD at the public library or this website has it available. In a 1 to 2 page response paper, identify the core elements of the poem (characters, plot, theme, setting). Using the example found on pages xxvi-xxvii in your textbook, give me a BRIEF explication of the poem. Finally, what is your reaction to the poem? Did you like it? Why or why not?
-
Watch the 1963 film Cleopatra. Imagine you are one of the main characters (Cleopatria, Julius Caesar, Marc Antony). In a 1 to 2 page response paper, tell me how you would react to this expose of your life being shown all over the world. Cite specific examples from the film.
-
Visit the Tutankhamun & the Golden Age of Pharaohs exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art. The exhibit runs from 10/03/08 until 05/09. Bring me your ticket stub and a brief write-up describing your reaction to the exhibit (did you like it? why or why not?). Also, pick 3 to 5 artifacts and describe in a couple sentences what these artifacts meant to the Egyptians. For information or tickets, visit this website.

-
Vote on November 4th. Bring me a 1-2 page write-up describing your voting experience with your “I voted!” sticker or the electronic code print-out attached in the corner. I am not looking for a “why you think your candidate should win/should have won” essay. I want to know how this election has shaped your present perceptions. You may also compare modern social issues with those mentioned in the text.

TRF Scavenger Hunt: If you happen to find yourself at the Texas Renaissance Festival this season, find me 5 anachronisms (things that are from a different time period) among the festival, staff, and actors. Do not include food or beverages, since they are all anachronistic. Write a small paragraph for each anachronism explaining why it is out of place.
-
